N5TITSA HP ALLAfter a year-long break in contesting I have the station back on the air. I had moved my station to Mississippi to operate remote, however with 400 plus millisecond response times across the wire was not conducive to contesting. So earlier in the week I made the drive to Mississippi to pick up my equipment and rebuild my station here in Texas. Last week I purchased an MFJ1838 Cobweb antenna and assembled it on a Military pole tripod at 16 feet, This is a temporary setup until I can get the antenna mounted on the roof when the temperatures come down in a few weeks. For this contest, I operated mainly on 40 and 80 meters and pulled a few Q's on 15 meters however 15 just never opened up at all. 40 Meters was pretty good for NA but EU just was not that strong here. Now the Cobweb antenna at 16 feet is not high enough to make it efficient so I am pretty sure that once I get the antenna on the roof plus 5 feet or so that EU will be easier. AS and OC was nonexistent for me this contest but I was able to nab 13 SA, 11 EU, and 3 AF, so not bad for 16 feet
N6ARSA HP ALLLine noise on 15 gone after 5 years. No condx!

ND3NSO LP ALLThis is the first international contest I've done since moving my QTH to Ohio (about 50 miles east of Dayton). I could tell that quite a few ops were using pre-fill as many had me confirm my zone and state. Hope that those who didn't ask aren't penalized too badly. This is also the first contest I've done without being associated with a contest club (PVRC). I've done some searches, but haven't been able to find a contest club in my area. If you know of one please contact me - my is on QRZ. Maybe I should consider starting my own? In any case, a good contest, band conditions limited me to mostly US/VE contacts, so I put as much of an effort as I could into maximizing the number of contact over searching for multipliers
NK5PSO LP ALLGreat times and decent conditions. Thanks to all for the Qs!
NN2NNSO HP ALLCQWW RTTY always a lot of fun. Thanks for the Q's!
NN4NTSO HP ALLRTTY is alive an well! Great fun
NN5TSO LP ALLFirst and 2nd night, I thought no EU on 40. In Sun afternoon, found regulars on 40 at 21z. Boy, 40 is really acting like 20 at the bottom of cycle. Not enough DX but still fun contest. Tks for QSOs
NR4OSA HP ALLBeat last year's score. Spent more hours. Rate per hour was down
NX6TSA HP ALLThis was another WQ6X remote operation from NX6T in Fallbrook. I ran the usual Elecraft K3 into an Expert-2K amplifier dialed back to around 700 watts keeping the shack-heat down to a mild toasty temperature. I began with a C-31 yagi for the high bands until a pair of THIEFS towed the tower trailer away for next weekend's CQP GiG. Switching over to the 3-el Stepp-IR allowed running BI-directional, working JA & SA simultaneously. While I found little 15-meter activity, calling CQ identified a PIPELINE to South America. One by one, new countries and zones quickly made it to the log. Because of the low sunspot cycle, 40 meters made almost as many QSOs as 20. My BIGGEST BEEF were the IDIOT LIDs who were running RTTY on EXACTLY 14.100.1 - the 20-meter NCDXF Beacon frequency - KNOCK it OFF Dingle Dorks. (Note to contest LCR software or humans, DQ ANY LOG that has 14100 as its operating frequency.) The BIGGEST difficulty were the random 2-3 sec. internet dropouts causing the VNC viewer (my logging screen) to FREEZE. This would require terminating the frozen program and starting a new instance. If I seemed to 'disappear' and then come right back but unexpectedly, this is probably the reason. I must've restarted VNC 500+ times during the weekend - I kid you not. LooK for a write up about this GiG at http://WQ6X.Blogspot.com
